Complete one of three projects at school with your peers or one of three projects at home with your friends or siblings. Submit using Google Classroom. Each project has a research component, a design and construction component, and a reflection component. 1. Build a "chimney" down which Santa can drop a bag of toys... or a marble. 2. Construct a reindeer that can stand on its own. 3. Construct a snowball launcher. How far can it go? Many positives from kids and parents! And because completion and submission = attendance, we had a low absentee rate on this half-day Friday before Christmas. A keeper! |

We are trying something new! We are hosting a Virtual STEM Day on the half-day before we dismiss for Christmas. It will involve students/families choosing from among 3 STEM Challenges, completing the challenges and reflecting on their design and construction, submitting their findings via Gmail and Google Classroom, and then asking parents to respond to a Google Forms survey regarding their children's ability to work independently, their tech-readiness, and more.
We have worked to think through pitfalls and ready ourselves. One piece-- What will it look like to submit the product on the student side of things? These fourth graders are stepping through the process with third grade teachers. Teachers are no longer the holders-of-all-knowledge. Students and teachers can collaborate and learn from one another! |
